International Labour Day was observed on Thursday with a pledge to safeguard rights of the labour class and ensure their socio-economic uplift.

On this occasion, labour unions organized seminars and rallies throughout the country including Islamabad-Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, Quetta, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit-Baltistan calling for better wages and working conditions for their community.

Pakistan is member of International Labour Organization since its inception in 1947.

The ILO promotes social justice and universally acknowledged human and social rights for workers.

Pakistan has ratified thirty six ILO conventions.
