December 01, 2017

Pakistan says Indian testing of cruise missile is a threat to regional peace and stability.

Speaking at weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign Office spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said such moves also expose Indian duplicity that it only pays a lip service to the arms control regimes.

He said Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif is in Azeri capital Baku to lead Pakistan's delegation at the 7th Ministerial Conference of Heart of Asia being held on Friday.

The spokesman said Pakistan attaches importance to Heart of Asia process.

Replying to questions, he said there has been increased interaction between Pakistan and the United States following announcement of new Afghanistan and South Asia strategy by President Trump.

He said the two countries consider mutual engagement as beneficial and that is why the US Defence Secretary is coming to Pakistan.

Replying to another question about the increase in opium production in Afghanistan, Dr. Muhammad Faisal said Pakistan has serious concerns over the issue due to the nexus between narcotics trade and financing of terrorism.

He said at the meeting of Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan highlighted its counter terrorism efforts and reaffirmed its support and cooperation in such efforts.

To a question about any possible concerns of Iran regarding the Coalition and Pakistan's role in it, the Spokesperson said we are in touch with Iran and the Army Chief paid visit to Tehran before the meeting of the Coalition.

Referring to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abassi`s visit to Saudi Arabia, He said the visit was a manifestation of our cordial ties with that country and the Prime Minister discussed regional and international matters during his meetings with Saudi leadership.
