A new study led by French researchers has revealed that world's glaciers are melting at an accelerating rate.

The study assessed the behavior of nearly all documented ice streams on the planet.

The researchers found that the ice streams have lost almost 270 billion tons of ice per year for over the first two decades of the 21st Century.

The melt water produced now accounts for about a fifth of global sea-level rise.

Thye say the total loss is growing by about 48 giga tons per year.
