In Syria, 5 million people living in hard-to-reach areas are in need of humanitarian aid.

The UN's emergency relief coordinator Stephen O'Brien, told the Security Council today that large increase is based on several factors including insecurity as well as constrained access for humanitarian actors.

He said the UN is now asking for access to reach over 1.2 million in 35 besieged and hard-to-reach areas next month.
