A consultative meeting of Pakistan Muslim League (N) is in progress in Islamabad. The meeting being attended by senior leadership of the party is discussing the future course of action following the Supreme Court verdict in Panama Papers case. It will be followed by a meeting of the parliamentary party of the PML (N) to be held at Punjab House at four pm.  Parliamentary party meeting will discuss the situation arising out of the Panama Papers case verdict. He said the meeting will also decide the name of next leader of the house.

Topic 02: Operation Khyber-iv: 110 square km area cleared, number of terrorist hideouts dismantled in Rajgal valley

In the ongoing Operation Khyber-IV, security forces have cleared 110 square kilometers area in Rajgal valley. A number of terrorist hideouts were also dismantled and improvised explosive devices neutralized. Forces are now searching cleared areas of Wucha Wana, Bagh, Ziarat Sereh and Pak Darra. Meanwhile, in the ongoing operation Radd ul Fasaad against the terrorists, Pakistan Rangers along with Counter Terrorism Department and Punjab Police have arrested 42 suspects during the last 48 hours. The apprehended individuals are suspected of providing harboring places to the terrorists in the suburbs of Lahore and Islamabad.

Topic 03: Neelum Jhelum hydropower project to start electricity generation by February next year

The Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project is scheduled to start electricity generation with commissioning of its first generating unit by February next year. It was informed during a meeting of the project's Board of Management held in Islamabad. Chairman WAPDA, Lt Gen (Retd) Muzammil Hussain also attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that filling of water in reservoir of the project will start in October this year while commissioning of the power generating units will commence in February next year. Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project comprises four generating units with cumulative generation capacity of 969 MW. On its completion, the project will contribute about five billion units of electricity to the National Grid every year and generate estimated revenue of 45 billion rupees annually.

The United State has termed disqualification of Nawaz Sharif as internal matter of Pakistan. A State Department spokesperson talking to reporters in Washington said we look forward to a smooth transition as Pakistani Parliament selects the next Prime Minister.

Topic 05: Pakistan China strategic partnership will not be affected by change of situation in Pakistan: China

China says its strategic cooperative partnership with Islamabad will not be affected by the change of the situation in Pakistan. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry's Spokesperson Lu Kang while commenting on the latest political situation in Pakistan after disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court. He said its all-weather friendship with Pakistan has withstood the test of times. Lu Kang said the latest situation is the internal affair of Pakistan and as a friendly neighbor, China hopes that all parties and sections in the country can prioritize state and national interests, properly deal with their domestic affairs. He said China stands ready to work with Pakistan to continue jointly building the Belt and Road and build a community of shared future, which serves the fundamental interests of both countries.

Topic 06: Sri Lanka,China sign a deal to lease out  Hambantota port to Beijing as part OBOR initiative

Sri Lanka has signed 1.1 billion dollars deal with China for the control and development of the southern deep-sea port of Hambantota. Sri Lanka's government says Hambantota port is expected to play a key role in China's Belt and Road initiative, known as new Silk Road, which will link ports and roads between China and Europe.

Topic 07: Rally held in Istanbul in solidarity with Palestinians

In Turkey, a rally was held in Istanbul to show solidarity with Palestinians in their struggle against Israeli restrictions on Al-Aqsa Mosque. Speakers at the rally said al-Quds is a source of pride and honor for the entire Muslim Ummah and we share the grief and pain of Palestinian people.

Topic 08: US imposes new ballistic missile sanctions on Iran after latest launch

The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran, targeting its key entities allegedly involved in ballistic missile programme. The US Treasury singled out six subordinate companies of Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group, which it said is central to Iran's missile programme. The move comes one day after Tehran tested a satellite-launch rocket which Washington called provocative.

Topic 09: North Korea launches another inter-continental ballistic missile

North Korea has test fired another Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile. The move came just hours after the United States and Japan moved to step up sanctions against Pyongyang following its first Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile test earlier this month. The unusual late-night missile test was detected by South Korean, US and Japanese monitors. Pentagon spokesman, Navy Captain Jeff Davis said the rocket travelled about one thousand kilometers before splashing down in the Sea of Japan.
