China has expressed serious concern over South Korea's decision to proceed with deployment of four additional units of the U.S. THAAD anti-missile defense system.

In a statement in Beijing, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that deployment will not resolve South Korea's security concerns and will only make things more complex.

The ministry reiterated a Chinese call for the system to be withdrawn.

Meanwhile, China has also urged North Korea to respect UN Security Council resolutions and stop all acts that could worsen tension in the Korean Peninsula.

The move came after North Korea conducted another successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
