Cyclone 'Nilofar' intensifies into very severe cyclone
Torrential rains will take place in the coastal areas of Sindh.
Tropical Cyclone Nilofar in Arabian Sea has intensified into a very severe tropical cyclone.
Talking to Radio Pakistan correspondent Haroon Baloch on Tuesday, Chief Meteorologist Tauseef Alam said the cyclone is currently about 1,100 kilometers away from Karachi in the North-West.
He said the cyclone will start moving towards North-West and then North-East during the next 12 hours.
Tauseef Alam said torrential rains will also take place in the coastal areas of Sindh including Karachi, Umer Kot and Keti Bunder.
He also advised fishermen not to go into deep sea till Friday.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Provincial Disaster Management Authority Sindh Syed Salman Shah has said that in view of tropical storm, section 144 has been imposed in the coastal areas of Karachi, Thatta, Badin and Sajawal and fishermen have been stopped from venturing in the sea.
Addressing a meeting at the PDMA on Tuesday, he said that all concerned departments have been directed to be ready to cope with any situation arising from the cyclone.
He said leaves of all the medical staff and employees of civic organization have also been cancelled.
