UN humanitarian relief coordinator Lise Grande has said that civilians are facing great hardship Iraqi city of Mosul as military assault entered in to final phase in the city.

She told media that the residents were in grave danger because the Islamic State militants are directly targeting families in the city.

Many people in the city are already facing severe shortages of water and electricity.

Iraqi forces said they made gains in a new assault on IS and they are striving to drive the militants out of the last remaining strongholds in Old City they still control.
