Efforts being made to reduce Railways’ deficit; Senate told

The Senate was informed on Tuesday that Pakistan Railway has started twenty-four new trains with the same rolling stock and human resources and earned additional 4.938 billion rupees.

Minister for Railway Sheikh Rashid told the House during the Question Hour, that the deficit of Railways has been reduced to 32 billion as compare to 40 billion rupees of last year.

The minister said we are making efforts to further reduce the deficit. He said we have earned record revenue of 54.50 billion rupees during current fiscal year.

Sheikh Rashid said the government is planning to enhance the old route of Peshawar-Torkham route to Jalalabad under CPEC. The new route will ensure the direct flow of Afghan international transit to Afghanistan. 

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan Swati said that work is underway on the project of Signal Free Corridor of Islamabad Highway from Faizabad to Rawat.

Answering a question in the Senate, he said there is no proposal to install traffic signals on U-turns between PWD Housing Society and T-Chowk Rawat.

In written reply, Interior Ministry has informed the House that there are 218 parks are in Islamabad out of which six are major parks.

The Ministry said that the major parks include, Lake View Park, Fatima Jinnah Park, Rose and Jasmine Garden, Play Land Park, Ankara Park and Kachnar Park. It said that wheel chairs are also available for disable citizens in these parks. The Ministry said that a survey is also being conducted for identification of all such parks where ramps are required.

The House has been adjourned to meet again on Friday at 10:30 in the morning.
