Pakistan forcefully raising HR violations in IOK at Int'l fora: Nafees Zakaria

Foreign office spokesperson reiterates Pakistan's desire to resolve all outstanding disputes with India through talks.

In occupied Kashmir, Indian police arrested the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq outside their residences in Srinagar, to prevent them from leading a march towards Kulgam district.

Meanwhile, after a brief lull in curfew yesterday, the authorities re-imposed restrictions for the 19th day, today, across the occupied territory. However, people defying curfew came out of their houses in Srinagar, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Baramulla, Badgam, Bandipora, Gandarbal and other areas of the territory and held massive anti-India protests. People hoisted Pakistani flag and raised ‘Go India Go’ slogans. Hurriyet leaders and organizations in their separate statements in Srinagar called upon the international community especially the United Nations to stop genocide of the innocent Kashmiris being perpetrated by Indian occupation forces in the territory.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan will continue to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people in their just struggle to the right of self determination.

Sartaj Aziz said Pakistan is deeply concerned at the recent killings of innocent Kashmiris by the Indian security forces.

Live on Telephone:

Nafees Zakaria(Foreign office spokesperson)

Pakistan has been forcefully raising the issue of gross human rights violations in occupied Kashmir at all international forums, including the United Nations, the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and other international organizations. Pakistan has drawn attention of the UN Security Council members as well international human rights organizations to the Indian forces' atrocities against the Kashmiris wherein over sixty people have been martyred.About five thousand people were injured in which about one hundred people have lost their lives. OIC has issued a very strong statement, expressing concern over the human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. Pakistan has been highlighting the Kashmir issue at international level, and will continue to do so. Pakistan has been holding the stance of having good ties with all the neighbors, including India for ensuring a durable peace in the region. Pakistan desires resolution of all outstanding issues with India, including Kashmir, through dialogue.  However, India always avoided talks using untoward incidents as a pretext.

Dr. Shaheen Akhtar (IR Expert)

“Since 1947, lots of young men and women have sacrificed their lives in Kashmir. After the martyr of Burhan Wani, a wave of protests triggered and many people gave their lives. This signals commitment and determination on the part of Kashmiri people towards their goal of independent and self reliant Kashmir. Indian unchecked brutalities in Kashmir are slap on the face of human rights activists and organizations. Pakistan has always extended diplomatic and political support to Kashmir cause and it is playing due role in the issue. Pakistan and Kashmiri people want permanent resolution of Kashmir issue.”

Khalid Khatak (Former Ambassador)

“Ironically, balance of power is ticking in favor of India and world is turning deaf ear towards Pakistan’s calls for peaceful and permanent resolution of Kashmir issue. To invoke global consciousness for Kashmir, Pakistan needs to work more seriously. The global powers should pressurize and force India to come on negotiation table. Congress, when out of power, makes hue and cry about Kashmir, but does the same what BJP is doing when it is in power corridors. It has an ambiguous policy towards Kashmir. India has to think out of its vested interests and resolve the Kashmir issue according to the aspirations of Kashmiri people.”

Air Marshal Retd. Shahid Latif (Defense Analyst)

“With the current policy, Kashmir dispute cannot be resolved, especially, when India is adamant to continue with its policy of denying Kashmiri people their fundamental rights. The world has dual standards when it comes to Kashmir and Palestine crisis. It is stuck to its criminal silence over Israeli and Indian human rights violations and atrocities in Kashmir and Palestine. We will have to activate OIC and make it more affluent functioning body. We should do effective lobbying over Kashmir, show documentaries in UN meetings and apprise the world about Indian brutalities in Kashmir. We should tell the world that India is using lethal weapons against innocent Kashmiris.”

Abdul Majeed Malik (Leader, APHC)

“For four weeks, India is making lives of Kashmiris miserable by bleeding and bloodletting policy in Kashmir. Curfew is still imposed, but women and children are protesting against Indian atrocities there. Pakistan is giving moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiri people. That is the reason Kashmiris hoist Pakistani flags and feel acquaintances with Pakistan. Pakistan is advocating Kashmir case in a proactive manner.”
