All macro-economic indicators show Pakistan on rising growth trajectory
The World Bank has said it would continue to assist Pakistan with consideration of a bigger package, including the International Development Assistance program and IBRD.This was stated by Chief Executive Officer of World Bank Group Kristalina Georgieva during her meeting with the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad . All macro-economic indicators show that Pakistan is on a rising growth trajectory.Clarifying the private sector involvement in CPEC projects, he said out of US $ 46 billion, over US $ 30 billion was meant for private sector investment whereas the rest was for public sector financing in infrastructure.
PSX closes above 50,000 for first time; market cap hits record Rs10tr
After attempts in the previous two sessions to settle above 50,000 points, the KSE-100 index finally managed to accomplish the feat for the first time on Thursday.The buying frenzy intensified in the last hour, which saw the index surge 435.59 points, or 0.88 per cent, to close at 50,192.36. With the addition of Rs60 billion on Thursday, the market capitalization of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) also reached Rs10 trillion.
Power tariff reduced by Rs2.21 per unit
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Thursday cut electricity tariff by 2.21 per unit for all distribution companies except for privatized K-Electric that was provisionally allowed to charge about 40 paisas per unit more from its consumers.The tariff adjustments were allowed after public hearings under monthly fuel adjustment that required transfer of actual fuel cost of power generation to consumers.The change in electricity rates would not be applicable to agricultural consumers and residential consumers with less than 300 units of monthly consumption.
Wheat exports post 100pc increase in first half
Wheat exports from the country during first six months of current financial year witnessed 100 percent increase as compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last financial year.
During the period from July-December, 2016-17, about 783 metric tons of wheat worth $0.229 million exported as compared to same period of last year.During first six months of last financial year zero quantity of the commodity were exported, according the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.On month on month basis, wheat exports from the country also grew by 100 percent as 310 metric tons of wheat exported during the month of December, 2016 as compared the corresponding month of last year.
Steps being taken to surpass 330,000 tons kinnow exports
Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan on Thursday said steps were being taken to surpass last year's kinnow exports of around 330,000 tons.
Addressing the 'Kinnow-Expo 2017', organized by USAID Agriculture Market Development (AMD) programme, the minister said that Indonesian Government has enhanced the period for importing the kinnow by four months, which would further augment the exports of the commodity.
