Senior officials of Economic Cooperation Organization member countries will continue their deliberations on the second day on Monday to give final shape to agenda of the 13th summit of the organization being held in Islamabad on Wednesday.


Addressing the meeting, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry said Pakistan wants a world class infrastructure for speedy movement of goods and people in ECO region.


He said China Pakistan Economic Corridor project is a major initiative which will benefit the entire region. 




The Foreign Office Spokesperson says ECO can serve as a bridge to connect Europe to Asia and spur economic activities of high magnitude to the benefit of its peoples. 


In tweet message, he said by virtue of geo location at the confluence of South and West Asia and Central Asia, Pakistan serves as natural economic hub and energy corridor of the three regions.


He said the resource rich region is home to 464 million consumer market with a growth rate of 1.58.


He said Pakistan is a significant consumer market with 200 million population.





A three-day anti-polio drive begins in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and sixteen districts of Balochistan from on Monday.   


In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, about eighteen thousand teams will take part in the campaign to administer anti-polio drops to more than five point six million children below the age of five years. Anti-polio drops will also be administered to children in seventy seven Afghan refugees and TDPs' camps.


Strict security arrangements have been made for security of the polio teams across the province.


In Balochistan, more than 1.7 million children up to five years of age will be administered anti-polio vaccination.


Three day anti-polio campaign also begins in Larkana division of Sindh on Monday during which 1.5 million children will be administered anti-polio drops.





Pakistan has informed Afghanistan that its troops respond to firing from across the border only in self defence.


This was stated by Pakistani ambassador in Kabul Syed Abrar while responding to Afghan Foreign Ministry's complaint about shelling from Pakistan and closure of border.


The ambassador said the closure of border is essential to stop movement of terrorists from Afghanistan into Pakistan.




A Pakistani soldier was injured when terrorists opened firing on Mangrotai area of South Waziristan Agency from across the border.


According to ISPR, Pakistan army befittingly responded to the firing and targetted hideouts of the suspected terrorists at Pak-Afghan border.





The AJK President Sardar Masood Khan says the industrial zone in Bhimber and hydel power projects in the area, approved under China Pakistan Economic Corridor will bring development and prosperity. 


Talking to PTV, he said under the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, AJK government is working on improving good governance, economic stability and independence of Kashmir from India.


Masood Khan said AJK government with the help of Pakistan government is effectively working on education, infrastructure, health and tourism sectors.


Replying to a question, he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had courageously highlighted Kashmir issue in the UN General Assembly.


He said Pakistan wants to resolve the Kashmir issue through dialogue but India is not sincere to resolve the lingering issue.




Palestinian officials have called for a boycott of Israeli military courts after a Palestinian freed in a 2011 prisoner exchange was re-arrested and sent back to prison for life.


Addressing a press conference in occupied Ramallah, Palestinian Prisoners Club head Qadura Fares called on detainees' families and Palestinian organisations to stop taking part in military trials and refuse to pay convicts' fines.


Head of the Palestinian Authority's commission for detainees, Issa Qaraqe also called for boycott" of the military courts.


According to a report by Palestinian Authority and the Prisoners Club, eighty five Palestinians freed in the 2011 swap have since been re-arrested by Israel with sixty five sent back to prison for life.




In Iraq, security forces pushed deeper into western Mosul amid stiff resistance from entrenched Islamic State militants.


The US-led forces are trying to capture a bridge across the Tigris  linking  the city's government-held eastern bank with the remaining militants held areas in the west.


Iraqi forces earlier captured eastern Mosul in January, after almost four months of fighting.




Morocco has announced the withdrawal of its forces from a U.N. buffer zone in the disputed Western Sahara territory.


The announcement came after a telephonic talks between Morocco's King Mohammed VI and U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres.


The move will reduce military tensions in a remote area of Guerguerat in Western Sahara near Mauritania.


In a statement the spokesman for the U.N. Secretary General called on all parties to unconditionally withdraw all armed elements from the Buffer Strip as soon as possible.




The United States has called on Russia and separatist forces to "immediately" observe ceasefire in Ukraine.


State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the United States is closely monitoring growing violence in eastern Ukraine and failure of Russian and separatist forces to abide by the ceasefire agreement.


He accused combined Russian and separatist forces of targeting international monitors.


The spokesman called on Russia and the separatist forces to withdraw all heavy weapons and allow full and unfettered access to monitors of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.




Hundreds of people held demonstration in the US city of New York in support of news media, amid stepped up attacks on the press by President Donald Trump.


Protesters gathered outside the office of New York Times in midtown Manhattan, some with bandages across their mouths and carrying placards citing the US Constitution guarantee of a free press.


The demonstrators later went to nearby offices of Fox News and NBC News.   


White House on Friday barred journalists from seven news organizations, including the New York Times and CNN, from attending an off-camera briefing in press secretary's office.


That was followed Trump's frontal attack on media, in a speech to an annual conservative convention in which he called the media as "enemy of people."
