Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary has said that draft of the Islamabad Declaration of the 13th ECO summit has been finalized focused on the connectivity among the member states.

Briefing media after the conclusion of two-day Senior Officials Meeting of ECO member countries in Islamabad on Monday evening, he said that the declaration will be adopted in the meeting of the heads of states and governments of the member states chaired by the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday.

He said the recommendations of the Senior Officials Meeting will be presented to the Council of Ministers meeting of ECO member states to be held in Islamabad tomorrow.

He said that the main focus of the summit is on connectivity in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, transport and trade among the regional countries and beyond. He said cooperation in these sectors have a message of prosperity and development for the whole region and the people of the region.

The Foreign Secretary said Pakistan has received positive response from the member states. He said that five heads of states, three heads of governments, one deputy Prime Minister, and one special envoy will attend the summit meeting on Wednesday. He said  participation  of the heads of states and the government in the summit is their confidence in Pakistan.

He said this summit has special importance because the ECO region and the member states have made tremendous developments in connectivity during the last three to four years. He said these projects have opened new avenues for development and prosperity of the region. He said Pakistan has also taken a number of initiatives for connectivity with the Central Asian states through Afghanistan, Iran and china through landmark China Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

To a question, he said that Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan and is ready to take all possible steps in this regard. He said it is the responsibility of Afghanistan not to allow anyone to use its soil against Pakistan.   He said Pakistan is taking all possible security measures and expects Afghanistan to join Pakistan in the journey of progress as a good neighbor.

Answering a question, he said that Pakistan has achieved great successes in the war against terrorism and this shows the commitment of the political and military leadership and people of the country.

To a question, he said that Pakistan is fully connected with the world and the ECO summit is its practical example. He said no country or group can isolate Pakistan. He said Pakistan will continue its commitment for the progress of the region and the world as well.
