Political prisoners being mistreated in Occupied Kashmir
In occupied Kashmir, the forum patronized by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has expressed concern and anguish over the ill-treatment meted out to the illegally detained Kashmiris lodged in Islamabad district jail and the visitors who come to meet them.
The forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said relatives of the detainees came to the office of the forum and complained that not only the jail inmates but also the relatives who go to meet them are badly treated and in the name of frisking, they are insulted and abused.
The women visitors are not any exception to this treatment and they are harassed during frisking, he stated. The spokesman said that the relatives of the detainees informed that the inmates were not being provided with proper food and medical care.
He said that the under-trials were not presented before the courts on hearing dates which was prolonging their detention. He said that the political prisoners were being subjected to vengeance inside the jail and termed it the worst kind of human rights violation.
The spokesman appealed to the Amnesty International, International Committee of Red Cross and other human rights organizations to take notice of the plight of the Kashmiri political prisoners and use their influence for their early release.
