Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that democracy will continue to function and flourish in the country and nobody will be allowed to impede this process.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday amidst the thumping of desks by the members of the House, he expressed the resolve to uphold the rule of law and constitution for a bright future of the country.

Speaking in Nuqta-e-Nazar programme of Radio Pakistan, Senior Journalist Haji Nawaz Raza said: “Imran Khan’s demands are unconstitutional. Due to protests and sit-ins, the situation of the country has worsened. All the political parties are supporting the government in order to protect democracy and the system. The current government has started a number of development projects which will help bring prosperity in the country. Imran Khan’s efforts are to undermine the government and to weaken the national economy.”

Minister of State for Communications Abdul Hakim Baloch said: “Prime Minister has set a precedent of showing patience against all the undue protests against him. Both Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri are trying to topple the government in the guise of protests. Government has been making all-out efforts to defuse the situation through dialogue and negotiations.”

Former Minister Dr. Ghazi Ghulab Jamal said: “In the 21st century, gathering people to demonstrate against the government and trying to topple it does not work. Imran Khan has been demanding the resignation of Prime Minister in order to weaken the democratic system. In all the Muslim countries, such conspiracies are being hatched to weaken them internally. Any person who considers him politician should not indulge in such type of dirty politics. Imran Khan should come to the assembly and try to resolve his issues at the proper forum of parliament. Street protests are no solution to any problem. This situation has caused economic turmoil in the country and the economy has become weakened.”

MQM Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said: “Our party has always maintained that dialogue is the only solution to all the problems. We salute the government on showing political maturity and allowing both the parties to protest. Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan should give reasonable demands, so that democratic system continues working in the country and economy of the country stays in the right direction.”
