Lt. General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been appointed as new Chief of Army Staff after being promoted to the rank of General. President Mamnoon Hussain has made the appointment on the advice of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister House, Lt. General Zubair Mahmood Hayat has also been promoted as four star general and appointed as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Lt. General Qamar Javed Bajwa

He is currently working as Inspector General of the Training and Evaluation at the General Headquarters. He has also commanded the Army's 10 Corps and remained posted in Ten Corps thrice. Gen. Bajwa has good experience of handling affairs in Kashmir and also led the UN Peace Mission in Congo as Brigade Command. He belongs to the infantry's Baloch Regiment while he is from the 62nd MPA Long Course.

Lt. General Zubair Hayat 

He is from the artillery and the serving Chief of General Staff (CGS). He has served as Director General of Strategic Plans Division and Corps Commander Bahwalpur and as corps commander Bahawalpur. Gen. Zubair is a second generation officer.
