Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has emphasized on a joint strategy at regional level to effectively deal with coronavirus pandemic.
In a telephonic conversation with his Bhutanese counterpart Dr. Tandi Dorji on Thursday, he said Pakistan desires for holding a video conference of SAARC health ministers for a comprehensive consultation on the issue among the regional countries.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan has suggested for restructuring of the loans of developing countries as they have to face economic difficulties while confronting the global challenge of coronavirus.
The Bhutanese Foreign Minister endorsed Pakistan’s proposal of holding a video conference of the SAARC health ministers. He also lauded Pakistan’s efforts for restructuring of the loans of developing countries.
Both the Foreign Ministers emphasized that SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund should be established under the leadership of SAARC Secretary General keeping in view the global challenge of the pandemic, and rules and regulations about the fund should be immediately formulated through mutual consultation.
They also decided to stay in contact on the issue.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has expressed unwavering solidarity with Italy where death toll has reached to over 7500.
In a telephonic conversation with his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio on Thursday, he foreign minister lauded the courage and heroism of Italian health care providers, and affirmed Pakistan's unwavering solidarity with Italy at this difficult time.
In view of the imminent economic difficulties, the Foreign Minister reiterated Prime Minister Imran Khan's call for debt relief and restructuring for developing States, as a means to enable them to divert resources to save lives and shore up economies.
He expressed the hope that Italy, as an important member of the EU, the G-7, and the G-20 would take up this matter at the Summit.
Meanwhile, according to official sources, the death toll due to Coronavirus in Italy has surged to 7503.
