The Government has adopted a multi-dimensional strategy to increase the indigenous oil and gas production.

Sources in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources told Radio Pakistan's correspondent that during tenure of the present Government, 46 new exploration licences covering an area of 94 thousand square kilometers have been granted to different exploration companies.

They said since June 2013, 202 wells have been spudded and as a result 31,000 barrels per day of oil and around 500 million cubic feet of gas has been added to the system.

The sources said in 56 discoveries during this period, 16 million barrels reserves of oil and 1,010 billion cubic feet reserves of gas have been discovered. Sixteen discoveries are under evaluation.
