PRESIDENT-WANG

President Mamnoon Hussain says Pakistan appreciates Chinese efforts to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan. 

 

He was talking to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who called on him in Islamabad on Sunday.

 

The President said this initiative will ultimately establish peace in the region

 

On this occasion the Chinese Foreign Minister said Pakistan has the potential to play a role for peace in the region.

 

He said Pakistan, China and Afghanistan should hold a joint meeting to discuss peace efforts.

                         

President said Pakistan is committed to peaceful co-existence with all its neighbours and wants to resolve all issues with India including Kashmir through peaceful means.

 

He said security of Chinese nationals working in Pakistan is the responsibility of the government and all out efforts are being made to arrest the culprits involved in abduction of two Chinese nationals.

 

President said a special security division comprising fifteen thousand personnel has been established for the security of Chinese nationals.                        

 

SARTAJ-WANG

Pakistan, Afghanistan and China have agreed to hold dialogue process at Foreign Ministers level to discuss all aspects of relations between Islamabad and Kabul with special focus on economic cooperation.

 

The agreement was reached in the wake of meeting between Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Islamabad.

 

The bilateral crisis management mechanism between Afghanistan and Pakistan will also be evolved that will enable the two sides to maintain timely and effective communications in case of any emergencies.

 

Addressing a joint news briefing along with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Islamabad on Sunday Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said  that Afghanistan, Pakistan and China have also agreed on the need for reviving the QCG process to create a conducive environment for talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

 

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi appreciated the resolute steps taken by Pakistan to counter the menace of terrorism.

                             

TANKER

Rescue and relief measures by the civil and military teams are underway after the oil tanker fire incident near Bahawalpur that claimed one hundred and thirty nine lives and injured many others. 

 

On the instruction of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, four helicopters are shifting injured to Burn units of Multan, Bahawalpur and other cities.

 

Fifty one injured were shifted to Burn unit of Nishtar Hospital Multan; however, two of them were later expired. Four medical teams of Army Medical Corps are also working to treat the injured people. A C-130 plane has also sent to Bahawalpur to join the rescue operation.

 

The process of identification of injured and those died in the incident are also underway simultaneously.

 

The incident occurred when the oil tanker turned turtle and oil leakage started. A large number of people of nearby localities rushed to the scene to collect oil. Meanwhile, the tanker caught fire and exploded resulting into killings and burn injuries. 

 

CONDOLENCE

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have expressed heartfelt deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident of oil tanker near Ahmed Pur Sharqia on Sunday.

 

In their separate condolence messages, they sympathized with bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the injured.

 

Prime Minister has directed provincial administration to provide the best possible medical facilities to the injured. 

 

Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, Acting Governor Punjab, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa also expressed deep grief on loss of precious lives in oil tanker incident.

 

The Punjab Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry of the incident and sought a report from the concerned authorities.                         

 

SHAHBAZ

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has arrived in Bahawalpur to oversee the rescue and relief operation after the tanker incident.

 

The Commissioner Bahawalpur is briefing the Chief Minister about the incident and follow up measures.                   

 

MARRIYUM

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb says all out efforts are being made to save maximum lives and all possible facilities are being provided in hospitals.

                    

The Minister of State also expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic incident.                             

 

BALIGH

Minister of State for interior Baligh-ur-Rehman visited Bahawal Victoria Hospital and inspected the medical facilities extended to burnt patients of Bahawalpur Tragedy.

              

XI-CONDOLENCE

Chinese President Xi Jinping has condoled with President Mamnoon Hussain over the loss of precious lives in oil tanker incident in Ahmed Pur Sharqia on Sunday.

 

In his condolence message the Chinese President said that government and people of China stood by the Pakistani people in this hour of grief.                       

 

WB

The World Bank has approved a mid-term review to support social sector development in Pakistan in partnership with International Finance Corporation.

 

According to the sources, the World Bank will provide assistance for improvement in energy sector, service delivery and enhancing capability of institutions.

 

The mid-term strategy is in line with Pakistan's Vision 2025 which include economic reforms, power sector reforms and sustainable solutions to financial issues.

 

The World Bank and IFC also decided to increase financing by 13 point 3 billion dollars for various sectors over the next three years.

 

The World Bank and IFC are extending support for improvement of agriculture sector in Punjab, urban development in Karachi and for uplift of living standard of people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.                           

 

MALEEHA

Pakistan has welcomed the creation of the new UN Counter Terrorism Office and announced to provide all possible assistance to it.

 

Speaking at a meeting of the UN Advisory Board, Pakistan's Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi hoped the new office will help bring better coordination and coherence across the UN system on counter terrorism.

 

The Pakistan envoy also congratulated Russia on the appointment of their veteran diplomat Vladimir Ivanovich Voronkov as Under-Secretary General for the newly established office.

                   

UN-QATAR

The United Nations has offered to help resolve the crisis between the Arab states and Qatar.

 

UN spokeswoman Eri Kaneko said we are observing the situation with deep concern and ready to assist all the parties thrash out a solution.

 

Meanwhile, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has said that he backed Qatar's response to a list of demands issued by Arab states boycotting the Gulf emirate.

 

He said calls for a Turkish military base there to close were disrespectful.                        

 

SYRIA

In Syria, several civilians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes at a residential building in occupied Golan Heights.

  

The Syrian military blamed that Israeli strikes were in support of rebels who are fighting with government forces in Quneitra near Baath City.

 

RUET

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Islamabad on Sunday for sighting of Shawwal moon.

 

Committee Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman will chair the meeting.           

 

OBITUARY:

Senator Agha Shahbaz Khan Durrani of PML (N) passed away due to cardiac arrest in Khuzdar early on Sunday morning.

 

The funeral prayer of Shahbaz Durrani will be offered at 1630 hours in Khuzdar on Sunday.

 

Governor Balochistan Mohammad Khan Achakzai has expressed deep grief and sorrow over sad demise of Agha Shahbaz Durrani.
