President has appreciated Chinese efforts to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.

President Mamnoon Hussain says Pakistan appreciates Chinese efforts to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan. 


He was talking to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who called on him in Islamabad on Sunday.


The President said this initiative will ultimately establish peace in the region


On this occasion the Chinese Foreign Minister said Pakistan has the potential to play a role for peace in the region.


He said Pakistan, China and Afghanistan should hold a joint meeting to discuss peace efforts.                              



Rescue and relief measures by the civil and military teams are underway after the oil tanker fire incident near Bahawalpur that claimed one hundred and twenty-five lives and injured many others.


Army helicopters have shifted eleven injured persons to Nishtar Hospital Multan.


Official sources told our Bahawalpur correspondent that the incident occurred when the oil tanker turned turtle and oil leakage started.


A large number of people of nearby localities rushed to the scene to collect oil.


Meanwhile, the tanker caught fire and exploded resulting into killings and burn injuries.     



President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have expressed heartfelt deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident of oil tanker near Ahmed Pur Sharqia on Sunday.


In their separate condolence messages, they sympathized with bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the injured.


Prime Minister has directed provincial administration to provide the best possible medical facilities to the injured. 


Acting Governor Punjab, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa also expressed deep grief on loss of precious lives in oil tanker incident.


Army Chief directed to provide full assistance to civil administration in rescue and relief operations.


The Punjab Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry of the incident and sought  a report from the concerned authorities.                       



Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb says the people who received burn injuries in oil tanker incident are being provided all possible medical facilities.


In a statement she said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif himself monitoring all arrangements including evacuation of the injured and treatment in hospitals.


The Minister of State also expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic incident.                           



Minister of State for interior Baligh-ur-Rehman visited Bahawal Victoria Hospital and inspected the medical facilities extended to burnt patients of Bahawalpur Tragedy.



An IT Software Park will be established in Islamabad with the help of Korean Government at a cost of six billion rupees.


According to official sources to bring information technology revolution in the country the Government is upgrading the higher education sector on modern standards of information technology.


The measures include establishing smart campuses in different universities and providing strong Information Communications Technology infrastructure to interlink cities across the country.


The Government has also launched project to provide 3G services to remote areas to widen digital reach to all regions of the country.



The World Bank has approved a mid-term review to support social sector development in Pakistan in partnership with International Finance Corporation.


According to the sources, the World Bank will provide assistance for improvement in energy sector, service delivery and enhancing capability of institutions.


The mid-term strategy is in line with Pakistan's Vision 2025 which include economic reforms, power sector reforms and sustainable solutions to financial issues.


The World Bank and IFC also decided to increase financing by 13 point 3 billion dollars for various sectors over the next three years.


The World Bank and IFC are extending support for improvement of agriculture sector in Punjab, urban development in Karachi and for uplift of living standard of people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.                       



Pakistan has welcomed the creation of the new UN Counter Terrorism Office and announced to provide all possible assistance to it.


Speaking at a meeting of the UN Advisory Board, Pakistan's Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi hoped the new office will help bring better coordination and coherence across the UN system on counter terrorism.


The Pakistan envoy also congratulated Russia on the appointment of their veteran diplomat Vladimir Ivanovich Voronkov as Under-Secretary General for the newly established office.



The United Nations has offered to help resolve the crisis between the Arab states and Qatar.


UN spokeswoman Eri Kaneko said we are observing the situation with deep concern and ready to assist all the parties thrash out a solution.


Meanwhile, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has said that he backed Qatar's response to a list of demands issued by Arab states boycotting the Gulf emirate.


He said calls for a Turkish military base there to close were disrespectful.
