Pakistan has underscored need for enduring partnership with the United States as it is vital for regional and international security.

This was stated by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi while addressing a roundtable discussion on US-Pakistan relations at John Hopkins University in Washington.

Leading scholars, academicians and members of Washington's think-tank community attended it.

Fatemi highlighted that substantial progress has been made in the bilateral relations, especially after the visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Washington last year.

He said the United States has appreciated Pakistan's positive role to enable Afghanistan to hold the recent Presidential election in a peaceful manner.

Responding to various questions about Pakistan's relations with the US, China, India and other countries in the region, he said that Pakistan is willing to play a constructive role for maintaining peace and tranquility in the region and beyond.

He hoped that the forthcoming meetings between Pakistan and India at the Foreign Secretaries level would set the stage for a constructive dialogue between the two countries.
