NISAR

Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan says incidents of terrorism have significantly reduced due to effective policies of the government during the last three years.

Talking to newsmen in Islamabad today, he said National Action Plan on counter-terrorism is being implemented under an effective coordinated mechanism throughout the country. 

The Minister said the media has an important role to play in eliminating the menace of terrorism by banning broadcast of reports about terrorist organizations.

He said the media needs to disseminate credible information keeping in view the national interest.

                             

AZIZ

Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz says the Economic Cooperation Organization summit to be held in Islamabad on Wednesday will focus on connectivity for regional prosperity.

Briefing reporters about the upcoming ECO summit, he said the forum will deliberate and decide on ways to augment cooperation in the areas of connectivity, trade, energy, investment, industry, economic growth and environment.

He said initiatives for furtherance of education and scientific linkages, cultural and people to people contacts within the ECO will also be discussed.

The Advisor said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is an excellent example of the summit's theme of connectivity. The project will connect with the existing and planned transit and energy corridors in the ECO region for greater progress.

Sartaj Aziz said most of the member states have already confirmed their participation in the summit.

The Advisor said the summit will be preceeded by the senior officials' two-day meeting beginning tomorrow, while council of foreign ministers will meet on Tuesday.

PAK-CHINA

Talking to a Chinese delegation led by  Ambassador Lu Shumin in Islamabad , Adviser on Foreign Affairs said  friendship with China based on mutual trust and respect and is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

The Advisor said our strategic cooperative relationship is an anchor for regional peace and stability.

He said Pakistan adheres to One China Policy and supports China on all issues relating to its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity including Taiwan, Tibet and Hong Kong.

Ambassador Lu Shumin condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and lauded the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan and its security forces in its fight against terrorism and extremism.

He also praised the pace of projects under CPEC.                                     

 

AHSAN

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in favour of Pakistan.

He stated this while addressing a seminar titled “New American Administration and Strategy of Pakistan” in Lahore today.

Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan wanted to see the Afghanistan as stable and peaceful country.

The Planning Minister said the economy of the country is stable due to the effective policies of the government.

He said the government has focused to improvement of education in the country. He said the government is providing all possible resources for the betterment of education sector. 

 

CALL ON

Austrian Ambassador Bargita Bilhar called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore today and discussed matters of mutual interests and boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said Pakistan and Austria have good relations and there is need to enhance trade and economic relations between two countries.

Punjab Chief Minister said that Bhaki Power Plant will start generate electricity from next month.

The Austrian Ambassador shown keen interest in investing in hydro power projects and also generating electricity from garbage in the Punjab province.

She strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and also condoled over the loss of precious lives.

Director General, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Saba Mohsin Raza has said that Radio Pakistan as a voice of nation is playing its effective role for the promotion of national harmony. 

She was addressing the staff and artists of Radio Pakistan Bahawalpur during her visit today.

 She said Radio Pakistan has created awareness among the people about socio-economic, cultural, educational and religious issues through news and programmes

She said Radio Pakistan's Sautul Quran Channel will start very soon its transmission from Bahawalpur. 

 

EXHIBITION

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated Abilities Exhibition 2017 in Karachi today.

Provincial Special Educations Department has organized the event in collaboration with Karachi Vocational Training Centre with the aim to bring the people with disabilities on the forefront and help them showcase their talent.

 Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the provincial government will provide financial and moral support to the special children to prove their worth.

 

PROJECTS

Most of the coal and wind power projects being executed in Sindh are likely to be completed this year.

Official sources told Radio Pakistan Karachi correspondent Altaf Pirzado that seven wind power projects of a total capacity of 350 megawatts electricity are in final stage, and they are expected to start production within two months.   

 Eighty percent work on two coal-based power plants with a total capacity of 1320 megawatts at Port Qasim, Karachi, has been completed. One of these two plants will start producing electricity late this year, while the other will become functional in June next year.

 These projects will help reduce electricity shortage in the country.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has urged the students to prepare themselves up to the expectations of the nation to meet national challenges.

 

He was addressing at the convocation of a private university in Peshawar today.

The Governor also awarded degrees to the students.

 

 ARREST

Seventy-eight suspects were arrested during search operations in different areas of Peshawar and Charsadda today.

Fifty-eight suspected people were apprehended in different areas of Peshawar, while twenty suspects, including five proclaimed offenders, were busted in Serdehri area of district Charsadda.

Arms and ammunition were also recovered from them.

In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference has strongly denounced the continued house arrest of its Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani.

The APHC spokesman in a statement said that Syed Ali Gilani had been confined to his residence in Hyderpora area of Srinagar for the past several years.

The spokesman termed the approach of puppet administration towards the APHC Chairman as brutal and callous.

He said the authorities could neither produce any court order nor they could justify this illegal detention.

TRUMP

US President Donald Trump has vowed to start building a wall on the Mexican border soon.

Addressing the Conservative Political Action Congress in Maryland, he vowed to always put American citizens first and build a great border wall.

His comments came a day after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly met their Mexican counterparts in Mexico City.

European Union will provide humanitarian assistance and exert efforts to establish peace in Yemen.

This was stated by the Secretary General of European External Action Service Helga Schmidt at a meeting with the Yemeni Ambassador to Belgium Mohamed Taha Mustafa  in Brussels.
