DAY

The nation celebrated birthday of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah with national zeal and enthusiasm today.

 

The national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings.

 

The day dawned with Qur'an Khwani at Quaid's mausoleum in Karachi.  A change of guard ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Quaid this morning. Cadets of Pakistan Military Academy Kakul took charge of guard duty.

 

Various events, including seminars, debates, exhibitions, and shows of performing arts were held to highlight various aspects of personality of the founding father, his teachings and achievements.

 

Radio Pakistan and Pakistan television are broadcasting and telecasting special programmes in connection with the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam.

                       

 

FUNCTION

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb says by following teachings of Quaid-e-Azam, Pakistan will be made prosperous and developed country.

 

She was addressing the concluding ceremony of the week-long celebrations in connection with the birthday of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah held under the auspices of Ministry of Information in Islamabad this evening.

 

She said Quaid had always reiterated for unity, faith and discipline. She said that in line with the Quaid's vision the nation is also celebrating Christmas with the Christian community today.

 

The Minister of State said that today we make pledge that we will work together to make Pakistan, Quaid's Pakistan in true sense.

 

She said that today is also Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif's birthday and we all congratulate him on this occasion.

  

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary said all challenges facing the country are being addressed properly.

 

On the occasion, Director General Pakistan national Council of the Arts Jamal Shah said that during the week-long celebrations all the departments of the ministry including Radio Pakistan, Pakistan Television and Pakistan National Council of the Arts organized special programmes to pay homage  to the father of the nation.

 

The ceremony was attended by Secretary Information and Broadcasting Saba Mohsin, Director General Radio Pakistan Khursheed Malik, parliamentarians and people belonging to all walks of life.

Speaking at a function in connection with Quaid's birthday at PTV this evening, Minister of State for Information said terrorist incidents have been significantly reduced in the country due to bold steps of the government. 

 

She said economy of the country has been strengthened as a result of prudent eonomic policies besides reducing power load shedding significantly.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Information Saba Mohsin urged to follow Quaid's teachings of unity, faith and discipline to move forward.

Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Aamir Riaz has said law enforcement agencies’ personnel will not abstain from rendering any kind of sacrifice in defending the mother land.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir birth Anniversary of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was also observed with full reverence and in a befitting manner today.

Railways Minister Saad Rafiq says Pakistan Railways arranged the first ever Christmas Peace Train with the aim to share joys of Christian community on eve of Christmas.

 

He was talking to newsmen at Lahore Railway Station after visiting the special Christmas Peace Train today.

 

Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayyaz Sadiq also accompanied him on the occasion.

 

Saad Rafiq said government is taking various concrete measures to overcome challenges like terrorism and power shortage.

President Mamnoon Hussain has made an appeal to the nation to seek Allah Almighty's blessings and hold country wide special prayers for rain tomorrow.

               

The President asked Ulema to lead the prayers across the length and breadth of the country and pray to the Almighty for a rain of blessings to end the drought.

               

President said he would also join the nation after Zuhr prayers for Namaz-e-Istasqa prayers in Islamabad.

Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting to review measures taken by Federal Board of Revenue on increasing direct collection of taxes in Islamabad today.

               

Chairman FBR, Nisar Mohammad Khan, briefed the Minister on the different models adopted by countries around the world to increase the direct collection of taxes.

               

The Finance Minister directed Chairman FBR to prepare a comprehensive plan that may be implemented through the next Finance Bill.

   

The Finance Minister also directed FBR to take all measures that would facilitate the voluntary tax payers and filers.

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb while reacting to a statement of PTI  Chairman about China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has categorically said the mega project is not meant for a particular province but it will benefit the entire country.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is working on a number of micro hydro power projects in Hazara division.

 

According to sources, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has directed Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization to start forty six new mini hydel projects in districts of Mansehra and Torghar.

 

The feasibility and designing of Brondo dam in district Torghar has also been completed and its construction would start soon.

The federal government has established a special unit in FATA secretariat Peshawar to expedite exploring natural resources in FATA.    

    

According to official sources, survey in fifteen different areas has been completed and licenses issued to different companies for drilling of oil and natural gas.

Frontier Work Organization says eighty kilometer long portion of Karachi Hyderabad Motorway - M9 will be opened for traffic from  next month.

 

Talking to Radio Pakistan Hyderabad Correspondent, FWO spokesman said M9 Motorway will be completed by the end of next year at a cost of 42 billion rupees.

 

The project includes construction of eight interchanges and service roads.

Pakistan released two hundred and twenty Indian fishermen from Malir District Jail Karachi as a good will gesture today.

 

According to official sources fishermen were arrested for violating territorial waters of Pakistan in the Arabian Sea.

 

 

KASHMIR

In occupied Kashmir, senior Hurriyet leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Maulana Abbas Ansari and Muhammad Yasin Malik have said India and its puppet authorities are making efforts at every level to change the disputed status as well as the demography of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

The leaders made these remarks while addressing a Seerat conference organized by Awami Action Committee in Srinagar, today. 

 

They said that the Indian Supreme Court’s verdict affecting the separate identity of the territory and issuance of domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris were part of anti-Kashmiri agenda of New Delhi and its local collaborators.

 

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama district on the first martyrdom anniversary of a mujahid, Owais Ahmad Shiekh, who was martyred by Indian troops on this day in Ajas area of Bandipora district, last year.

 

All shops remained closed while transport was off the road.  

 

Anti-India protests were also held at Banihal and Bijbehara on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, today. Hundreds of drivers parked their trucks on road near Banihal and protested against highhandedness of the Indian army.

A Russian military plane today with ninety-two people on board crashed over Black Sea.

 

The plane disappeared from radar just minutes after take-off from the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

 

Russian media say, aircraft belongs to the defence ministry,  carrying members of the world-famous Russian army choir for a New Year concert at the Russian military base in Syria.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a nationwide day of mourning on Monday for victims of the crash of a Russian plane.

 

He said the government will conduct a thorough investigation into the reasons and do everything to support the victims' families.

Powerful typhoon Nock-Ten makes landfall in Philippines.

 

A typhoon packing gusts of wind up to 255 kilometer per hour hit the eastern Philippines.

An earthquake measuring seven point seven magnitude on Richter  scale jolted southern part of Chile today. 

 

US Geological survey says the epicenter of quake was forty  kilometer south west of Puerto Quellon and at the depth of twenty miles.

 

Chilean officials have declared a prevent Tsunami alert.

 

However, there were no immediate reports of damages.
