The United Nations has said that currently twelve million people in Syria continue to depend on humanitarian assistance and more than eight in ten people live below the poverty line.

Speaking at a Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Ursula Mueller highlighted Idlib, Al Hol camp and Rukban as three key areas of concern.

She said the children suspected of being associated with armed groups or terrorist groups are entitled to special care and protection under international humanitarian law.
