Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave a detailed briefing to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the appalling human rights situation in Kashmir during their recent meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

UN Spokesman Stephanes Dujarric in a briefing said the Secretary General listened carefully to the information given by Pakistani leader about the developments in the region.

The Prime Minister urged the Secretary General to implement the UN promise to the people of Kashmir granting them the right to self-determination through a free and fair plebiscite.

Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan looks forward to the leadership and good offices of the new Secretary General to implement the relevant UN resolutions to settle the long-standing Kashmir issue.

He also reiterated Pakistan's serious commitment to lasting peace and security in the region by building a peaceful neighbourhood.
