In Bangladesh, the opposition has called for a thirty six-hour countrywide strike from tomorrow to protest against the alleged arrests of its leaders.

The United States, the European Union and Britain have voiced concern and urged all Bangladeshi parties to engage in dialogue.

At least thirty-four people have died so far in the political unrest caused by a stand-off between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the main opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia since January last year.
