Analyst Dr. Riffat Hussain has termed the meeting between Director General Military Operations of Pakistan and India a step in a right direction.



Speaking in a Nuqta-e-Nazar programme of Radio Pakistan‚ he said the meeting is a step towards confidence building measures between the two countries. He said regular contacts between the military leadership of two countries can able to resolve disputes at border. He  said Pakistan and India have to resolve their bilateral issues through mutual dialogue without the intervention of  any foreign power.



Taking part in the programme‚ senior Analyst Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal  said Pakistan and India relations are very complicated. He said this year we have seen another dimension  in Pak India relations when tension started at LOC and resultantly the relations between the two countries become very tense. He said Indian army Chief this year made many provocative statements against Pakistan.  He said the meeting of DGMOs of Pakistan and India will help to reduce the tension.



Defence Analyst Major General (R ) Jamshad Ayaz said the meeting of DGMOs of Pakistan and India is very important. He said DGMOs of both countries clearly indicated that the armies of both countries want peaceful relations.



Director General of South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) Dr. Maria Sultan‚ said the meeting of DGMOs clearly states that there is a change in the mindset of Indian military to have cordial relations with Pakistan. She said operational level meeting is very important between the military leadership of two countries. She said crisis management is necessary at Line of Control; any tension at LOC will increase tension meeting the two countries. She said the political leadership of two countries has to take steps to institutionalize regular dialogue between the two countries. She further said that Kashmir is a basic dispute between the two countries. It is necessary that political and military leadership of both countries should agree to draw a mechanism for the resolution of Kashmir dispute.



Prof. Dr. Mehmood-ul-Hasan Butt said the meeting of two DMGOs will help to restore confidence building measures between people of two countries. The meeting of brigade commanders at LOC will also help to avoid any tension. Normalization of relations between the two countries will be beneficial for the poor people of both the countries.
