Govt committed to making PEMRA an effective body: Siddiqui
Special Assistant to PM says the Code of Conduct for electronic media was prepared in consultation with the Pakistan Broadcasters Association
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Affairs Irfan Siddiqui has said the government is committed to make Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority an effective organisation and steps are being taken in this regard.
Talking to PTV, he said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had directed to streamline the affairs of PEMRA and legislation, if required, would also be made for the purpose.
Irfan Siddiqui said that Code of Conduct for electronic media was prepared in consultation with the Pakistan Broadcasters Association.
The advisor said the Islamabad High court had imposed a ban on any recruitment in PEMRA. However, after the directive issued by the Supreme Court on Friday, the government gave an advertisement for the appointment of its Chairman.
He urged all the stakeholders, including Pakistan Broadcasters Association and owners of media houses to play their role for the implementation of Code of Conduct in true letter and spirit.
