Special Assistant to the Prime Minster on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza says government is taking strict measures to regulate vaccine-related harmful content on social media to address the misconceptions regarding polio campaigns.
Talking to a private news channel today, he said the government has prepared a coordinated and comprehensive plan to make Pakistan polio-free by the next year.
The Special Assistant said rumours and propaganda spread over social media platforms has been fueling misconceptions about the vaccine and accelerated refusal cases.
He regretted that anti-vaccine campaigns have adversely affected the polio programme and put the lives of children at stake.
Zafar Mirza said polio vaccination is a matter of our future generations and the government will not allow anyone to sabotage the national drive.
He said the cases of Polio have risen after several refusal cases were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Karachi and Balochistan but now with new strategy of government it would be monitored strictly.
Dr Zafar Mirza also asked people to cooperate with polio teams and immunize their children against the crippling disease.
