China calls for lifting economic sanctions on Afghanistan, release of its forex reserves

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for immediate humanitarian aid to Afghanistan demanding that economic sanctions should be lifted  to jointly restore peace in the war-torn country.

Addressing a regular briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Zhao Lijian said, Wang stated this after attending the G20 virtual foreign ministers’ meeting on Afghanistan.

Lijian said, Chinese foreign minister during the meeting said, the G20, as a major platform for international economic cooperation, should play a constructive role in efforts to seek peace, promote development and build consensus in Afghanistan.

Yi also welcomed various multilateral mechanisms on Afghanistan to leverage their respective strengths and form synergy for assisting Afghanistan.
