Eminent Islamic scholars have called for intensifying efforts to stop polio virus transmission in the country.

The call came at a meeting of scholars organized at the Islamic International University in Islamabad and chaired by Prime Minister's Focal Person on Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq.

In her keynote address, Ayesha Raza Farooq said the role of Islamic scholars in voicing concern for health and well-being of children is laudable.

She said efforts for polio eradication have been expedited and vaccination work in Waziristan after two and a half years has also started.

The scholars agreed that Ulema of the remote areas and union councils and grass-root level should be approached to have positive results in eradication of polio .
