President Mamnoon Hussain has called for strengthening interfaith harmony and national unity to counter challenges confronting the country.
Addressing a ceremony in connection with Christmas at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad, he urged the people to stand united on issues of national importance and confront the enemy as one nation irrespective of religion, sect, caste, and creed.
The President said Pakistan is fighting an enemy, who is bent upon exploiting every possible opportunity to weaken us and create fissures among our ranks.
He called for taking effective measures to remove distrust and misunderstandings among followers of different religions and foster greater understanding, tolerance and respect for all.
The President on this occasion also cut the Christmas cake.
Earlier, one-minute silence was observed to pay homage to the victims of Peshawar school attack.
