FM urges int’l community to engage with Afghanistan to avert any human crisis

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged the international community to engage with Afghanistan to avert any human crisis and economic collapse in the country.

Talking to media in New York on Thursday, he said any economic collapse will have disastrous impact not only on Afghanistan, but on the whole world. He said a coordinated strategy is needed to prevent all these things from happening.

The Foreign Minister said situation in Afghanistan is a test for the international community, which needs global and joint efforts to achieve the goal of peace, stability, preventing terrorism from sprouting again, ensuring a broad-based and inclusive government as well as protecting human rights.

He said Pakistan, along with other neighbouring countries of Afghanistan, has presented some proposals for stability in the war-torn country. He said European Union and other countries should join these proposals to achieve the goal of stability in Afghanistan.

The Foreign Minister said he held meetings with various world leaders, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, and exchanged views with them about the evolving situation in Afghanistan and grave human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir by India.
