Complete boycott and shutdown was observed in occupied Kashmir today (Tuesday) during sham elections in Anantnag-Islamabad constituency.

In a statement issued in Srinagar, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani said participation in election amounts to betrayal of the sacred blood of martyrs and disrespect towards those who lost eyesight and ruthlessly killed.

He said Kashmir is a political dispute and the election drama could not be an alternative to the right to self-determination.

Meanwhile, several youth were injured when Indian troops fired pellets and teargas shells in Islamabad district.

The troops fired teargas shells and pellets at the youth during anti-India protests at Dehruna in Dialgam area of the district.

The clashes between protesting youth and Indian forces’ personnel were going on in the area when reports last came in.

Complete shutdown is also being observed across the valley, against the ill-treatment meted out to the ailing and incarcerated Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik by India’s infamous National Investigation Agency in New Delhi.

Call for the protest strike was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership.
