The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon has appealed to all warring parties in Syria to de-escalate the conflict to provide a reprieve for the country's long-suffering civilians.

In a statement, he said that over the previous four years of war, more than two hundred thousand civilians have been killed in Syria.

Recalling Security Council resolutions 2170 and 2178, the Secretary-General stressed that there could be no military solution to the conflict.

Meanwhile, four people were killed when a car bomb exploded in the western Syrian town of Qardaha.
