Analyst welcomes Obamaâ€™s statement on terrorism and Islam
General (retired) Talat Masood says issues such as bad governance and lack of democracy cause terrorism
General retired Talat Masood has welcomed the US President Barack Obama's statement that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam terming it timely and very significant.
Talking to Radio Pakistan he said mostly Muslim countries are affected by the terrorism hence the anti-Islam forces were fanning the impression particularly in the western countries that Islam is the cause of spreading terrorism in the world.
He said US enjoys great influence in the world and such a statement by President Obama will play a positive role in removing such impression in the world.
He said causes of terrorism include political reasons, bad governance and lack of democracy.
Responding to question about Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan's statement that the terrorism can be checked by resolving outstanding issues at the international level he said Interior Minister has rightly pointed out the issues but Muslim countries need influence and clout at international power structure to get the outstanding issues like Kashmir and Palestine resolved.
