Afghan Taliban have asked to address world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week.
According to a UN spokesperson, the request to participate in the high-level debate is being considered by a credentials committee, comprising nine members that includes United States, China and Russia.
Taliban have nominated their Doha-based spokesperson, Suhail Shaheen, as Afghanistan's UN ambassador.
Earlier, at the UN meeting, Qatar urged world leaders to stay engaged with the Taliban saying that boycotting them would only lead to polarisation and reactions.
