FM urges int’l community to stay engaged with Afghanistan

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged the international community to stay engaged with Afghanistan to avert humanitarian and economic crises in the war-torn country.

He was talking to his counterparts from Ireland, Portugal and Egypt in New York.

The Foreign Minister stressed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is of vital importance for Pakistan and the region.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating evacuation of diplomatic personnel and staff of international organizations from Afghanistan.

The Foreign Minister shared with his Portuguese counterpart the comprehensive Dossier containing evidence of India’s human rights violations, war crimes and illegal attempts to bring about a demographic change in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions.

The Foreign Minister also presented to his Norwegian counterpart a comprehensive Dossier documenting India's gross and systematic violations of human rights in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He underscored the need for increased collaboration with Norway in the political, economic, clean energy and other areas of mutual interest.

FM participates in an informal luncheon of D-8 countries hosted by Bangladesh

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to the objectives and vision of D-8.

Participating in an informal luncheon of D-8 countries hosted by Bangladesh, he stressed for adopting an effective strategy and monitoring mechanisms to ensure implementation of the initiatives of D-8 Decennial Roadmap 2020-2030.

D-8 was established in Istanbul in 1997 to promote development cooperation among its member countries.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reiterated the need for continued joint global efforts to address the growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the threat of refugee displacement.

Talking to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi on the sidelines of 76th session of UNGA in New York today, he said unconditional support from the international community is essential to get Afghanistan out of the humanitarian crisis.

On the occasion, UN High Commissioner for Refugees thanked the Foreign Minister and the Pakistani leadership for assisting in the evacuation of citizens of different countries and staff of international organizations from Afghanistan.

He lauded Pakistan's role in hosting four million Afghan refugees over the past four decades.

Talking to his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on the sidelines of 76th session of UNGA in New York today, he lauded Qatar's role for peace in Afghanistan.

He said bilateral relations between Pakistan and Qatar have evolved over time into political and economic partnership.
