May 22, 2020

Shah Mahmood Qureshi (Foreign Minister): Entire nation mourns over loss of precious human lives due to plane crash in Karachi. It is highly tragic incident as passengers who embraced martyrdom were on way to their homes to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their families. The Government of Pakistan is thankful to the foreign ministers and head of states, who have expressed grief and sorrow over loss of precious human lives in tragic crash. It is the top priority of the government to provide best medical facilities to the survivors, and facilitate those who are engaged in relief and rescue operation PIA was in miserable condition during the tenure of previous governments. The incumbent government took corrective measures for the betterment of the institution. PIA is a national airline and there is always space for further improvement. There is no doubt that the whole nations is united and mourns at this tragic incident. Rescue activities are underway and relevant authorities are performing their duties vigilantly. Black box of ill-fated plane has been recovered; and soon facts would be brought before the nation once investigations are completed.

Senator Shibli Faraz (Minister for Information and Broadcasting): I would express deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in PIA plane crash in Karachi. The government is fully focusing on relief and rescue operations in the crash incident.   This is highly tragic and sad incident before Eid-ul-Fitr and all prays of Prime Minister Iman Khan and his government are with the passengers, crew members, and their families. The Federal government is in contact with the Sindh Government and both are making all-out efforts in rescue operation. Prime Minister Imran Khan is also in contact with the Sindh Government and Civil Aviation Authority and giving necessary directions in this regard. An information desk has been established to have a contact with families of the passengers on board the plane.  The incumbent government is also taking concrete measures to facilitate the marginalized segments of the society in wake of Covid-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Imran Khan directed to ease the lockdown only to facilitate the downtrodden resourced people of the country. It is now responsibility of the people to observe all precautionary measures to stay safe. I appeal to the people to follow all SOPs properly to contain the spread of virus .Pakistan is a developing country and cannot afford ceasing of economic activities for a long period of time.

Nasir Shah (Sindh Information Minister): The whole nation mourns at the crash of PIA plane. Chief Minister Sindh himself visited the site of the incident and hospital where injured have been shifted. The directions have been delivered to the relevant authorities to facilitate the affectees. An information cell has been formed to provide exact information regarding the incident .Rescue work is undergoing and dead bodies are being handed over to the hospitals. The focus and priority of the government is rescue activities right now. We have met the only survivor of the plan crash to get the first hand information regarding the incident. A proper investigation should be carried out to ascertain exact cause of the crash.

Air Vice Marshal, retired, Ikramullah Bhatti (Defense Analyst):  I would pray for the bereaved families and the martyrs, who lost their lives in this tragic incident.  All the institutions are in close contacts for emergency and rescue activities. All authorities concerned are actively engaged in rescue and relief operation.  There is always space for technical fault in machinery and it was not an old plane.  We cannot conclude any result without proper investigation.

Shamim Shawl (Hurriyet Leader): The India’s move to change special status of Occupied Kashmir is illegal and unconstitutional. The Indian troops are involved in brutally killing the Kashmiri youth. Modi has converted the whole valley into the largest prison of the world. India has failed to suppress the indigenous freedom movement through force and weapon. Indian government has highly militarized the whole valley. Pakistan is taking concrete measures to highlight the issue of Kashmir at international front. It is high time to show aggressive foreign policy to sensitize the international community regarding Kashmir dispute.
