Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has expressed optimism that the United States will accelerate its support for his country's struggle against the Islamic State group.

Speaking at a Washington think tank shortly after his White House visit, al-Abadi said he got the impression that the Trump administration will take a more aggressive approach towards the Islamic State group.

He said the Iraqi forces working with allies and supported by American airpower are on the brink of fully liberating Mosul.
