International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is being observed across the world today, including Pakistan.

On this day in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in South Africa against racial discriminatory laws.

The theme for this year is 'ending racial profiling and incitement to hatred'.

In his message on the occasion, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein has reminded governments around the world that they have a legal obligation to stop hate speech and hate crimes.
