July 21, 2019

In Libya, UN-backed government has warned against a new military escalation by the rival eastern-based army in capital Tripoli.

In a statement, government said Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord is following up media and UN reports about preparations for a new military escalation by the aggressor forces in Tripoli.

The statement called upon UN Mission and international community to assume their responsibilities regarding intentions of aggressor militias to target civilians.

The army, led by General Khalifa Haftar, has been leading a military campaign since early April to take over the capital Tripoli from the government.
