Pervaiz urges media to play role in promoting Pak-Afghan ties
Afghan envoy favours closer interaction between Pakistan, Afghanistan
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid has asked media to play its role in further promotion of ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Talking to Afghan Ambassador Janan Mosazai, in Islamabad on Tuesday, he stressed the need for implementation of memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries in culture and media.
Both the leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly cooperation in the field of media, culture and information.
The Afghan Ambassador emphasized the need for further close interaction between the two countries for the prosperity and betterment of the people of the two countries.
Earlier, talking to a delegation of Swedish Parliament led by its Speaker Per Westerberg in Islamabad, Pervaiz Rashid said democracy guarantees peace and safeguards human rights.
He said Pakistan highly values its ties with Sweden as both the nations shared the common values of parliamentary democracy and pluralism. He said the government believes in women empowerment adding that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif stressed on increased participation of women in all spheres of public life.
Pervaiz Rashid said women parliamentarians in Pakistan played a proactive role by participating in debates and giving valuable suggestions and proposals in the committees of the House. He said the parliament has also adopted many legislative measures to ensure gender equality and women rights in the country.
He said National Commission on the Status of Women is functioning issues related to violence against women are taken up accordingly. He said Pakistan is a democratic state, where free media and a vibrant civil society played their due role by raising public awareness regarding their inalienable rights.
He assured the delegation that the government will make every possible effort to safeguard the rights of minorities. Pervaiz Rashid emphasized the need for parliamentary exchanges between the two countries saying it will help promote bilateral ties between Sweden and Pakistan.
He said Pakistan would like to build a broad based, substantive and long term relationship with Sweden on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation.
Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Per Westerberg said regular parliamentary exchanges will enhance bilateral relations.
