Analysts appreciate Govt's steps for strengthening democracy
Participants of â€˜Aaj Ki Khabarâ€™ programme also laud consistency in economic policies of government
In today's programme, 'Aaj Ki Khabar' of the News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan, we discuss the statement of Information Minster Pervaiz Rashid who said that democracy guarantees peace and safeguards human rights. He said this while talking to a delegation of Swedish Parliament led by its Speaker Per Westerberg in Islamabad on Tuesday. The minister said Pakistan highly values its ties with Sweden as both the nations shared common values of parliamentary democracy and pluralism.
Speaking in the programme, expert on international affairs Maqbool Elahi Malik quoted the statement of Information Minister saying democracy is only instrument to safeguard rights and interests of the people. He lauded the government for taking various measures to strengthen democracy and democratic institutions in the country. He said Speaker of the Swedish Parliament held fruitful meetings with Pakistani leadership and discussed issues and matters pertaining to democratic system and norms. He further said the government is taking praiseworthy measures to empower women and to implement job quota for women in state departments.
Taking part in the programme, President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Engineer Suhail Ahmad Lashari said economic growth is linked with consistency in economic policies of the government. He said the domestic and foreign direct investment will also increase confidence building measures taken by the government. He proposed the government to widen tax base by including common man in the tax-net. He urged the government to introduce a transparent tax collection system by overcoming corruption.
Suhail Lashari suggested the government to decrease ratio of indirect tax, which resulted in burdening the common man with taxes.
