Saudi-led coalition has urged the United Nations to place the strategic Hodeidah port in Yemen under its supervision.

In a statement, the coalition said supervision of the port by UN will facilitate flow of humanitarian supplies to Yemeni people and end its use for weapons smuggling and human trafficking.

The demand was made after forty two Somali refugees were killed when their boat came under attack after departing the port city en route to Sudan.

The port is currently under the control of Houthi rebels.
