Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa was awarded the Legion of Merit in recognition of his services for promotion of Pakistan-Turkey defence ties in Ankara today. Speaking on the occasion, General Bajwa underscored the special place that turkey enjoys in the hearts of Pakistanis. He dedicated the award to the Shuhada of both Pakistani and    Turkish Armed Forces. Later, the Army Chief called on his Turkish counterpart  General Hulusi Akar and discussed matters related to regional security and the role Armed Forces of both countries play towards peace and stability. The two leaders agreed to further enhance defence cooperation in multiple fields. Turkish military leadership was greatly appreciative of the role Pakistan Army plays against terrorism and in peace keeping operations and as a factor of stability in a very volatile region. Earlier, General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited   Ataturk Mausoleum and laid floral wreath to pay homage to the father of the Turkish nation and penned down his respects on the visitor’s book. On his arrival in Ankara, General Bajwa was presented  guard of honour. The Army Chief was briefed on the regional security situation and the Turkish Land Forces and their various undertakings in field of training, defence production and peace keeping operations.

Pakistan and Turkey have historical relations. The people from this region used to go and fight for Turkey in past. Turkey wants support and guidance from Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. It wants to benefit from our experience. Given the current situation in the region, Pakistan is the most trusted friend of Turkey. It is working on many projects in Pakistan. Turkish president watched and supported Pakistan in match against India. Pakistan and Turkey have the strongest armies of the Muslim world.

PM announces Rs10 mln each for cricket team players

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced ten million rupees cash each for the winning cricket team. In a statement, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the prime minister announced the prize money to acknowledge players efforts in winning the ICC championship. She said encouraging young players will promote sports culture in Pakistan. She said the national cricket team presented outclass game in all fields during the final. The Minister of State said the team has made the entire nation proud.
