Caretaker Interior Minister Azam Khan says coordinated strategy needs to be pursued at international level to cope with the common challenge of climate change.

Addressing a two-day international conference on disaster management in Islamabad today (Wednesday), he said Pakistan is fully committed to play its role in serving humanity facing disasters.

 The Interior Minister said Pakistan has incurred huge losses due to natural calamities; however, it is now fully capable to deal with such situations through lessons learnt.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority Lt. Gen. Umer Hayat said the disaster manage system in the country has been improved.

He said the System has been playing important role in proving first hand aid to the people affected by disasters.  

Addressing the conference, UNDP Country Director Pakistan Ignacio Artaza assured UN support for policies that target both natural resource management and climate change mitigation at national, provincial and community levels. 

Highlighting natural beauty in Pakistan, Swiss Ambassador to Pakistan Thomas Kolly said Pakistan is playing an important role in dealing with floods and other calamities in the region.
