In Afghanistan, Hizb-i-Islami Chief Gulbadin Hekmatyar has announced to contest presidential elections to be held in July this year.

Announcing his candidacy in a news conference in Kabul, he pledged to restore peace and tranquility in the country.

Hekmatyar said the situation in Afghanistan requires a powerful central government led by an elected president supported by the majority of people.
