The Ministry of Climate Change has planned a number of new projects to be executed in the next fiscal year for ensuring better environment. Official sources told APP that Prime Minister has approved the launching of Green Pakistan Programme to increase forest cover of the country. The sources said Climate Resilient Urban Human Settlement Units, Climate Change Reporting Unit, and Pakistan Water and Sanitation Hygiene Strategic Planning and Coordination Cell, would also be established to achieve the targets.

China offers to make Diamer-Basha dam project part of CPEC- Western route of CPEC to be completed by June next year

China has offered to bring Diamer-Bhasha Dam project under the umbrella of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This was informed at a meeting of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reforms in Islamabad on Monday. Chairman WAPDA Muzamil Hussain told the committee that the project has been pending since long, as Asian Development Bank has declined to fund it, raising objection on its location. Chairman WAPDA said other hydro-power projects including Neelum Jehlum and Tarbela extension would be completed by May next year which would provide additional 2500 MW electricity.  

OIC chief strongly condemns Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir

The OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, has strongly condemned continued violence by Indian forces against innocent Kashmiris in the held valley. In a statement, he said the Kashmiris remain victims of the denial of their inalienable rights to self-determination and have been suffering from the non-implementation of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif says that 1230 megawatts electricity will be generated from Haveli Bahadur Shah Gas power plant. He paid a surprise visit to Haveli Bahadur Shah, Jhang today and reviewed the construction process. Shahbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the efforts of the team and said that the power plant will start trial production from tonight.

The European Union has reaffirmed its support for Paris agreement on climate change. It was agreed in Foreign Affairs Council convened in Luxembourg today. The Council said in a statement that the Paris Agreement is fit for purpose and cannot be renegotiated.
