ILO organizes conference for protection of fair recruitment of migrant workers

International Labour Organization organized a day-long round table consultation with media for protection of fair recruitment of migrant workers in Islamabad today (Thursday).

The conference was participated by a number of stakeholders, including government officials, academia, nominees of non-governmental organizations, and media representatives.

Addressing the conference, the ILO Country Director Ms. Ingrid Christensen called for creating awareness among the potential immigrant workers to use proper channels for migration abroad. She warned against exploitation of immigrant workers at the hands of human traffickers.

In his address, ILO Consultant Mr. Hans van de Glind urged the need for protection of the rights of migrant workers through media awareness. He called for coordination among government departments, social activists, community leaders and law enforcement agencies to check human trafficking.

The National Project Coordinator of ILO in Islamabad, Munawar Sultana highlighted the steps taken by the organization for protection of Pakistani immigrants abroad.
